Maternity and Family Session at Drottningholms Slott | Stockholm Family Photographer

I’d never done a family photo session at Drottningholms Slott in Stockholm before. I tend to shoot more in quieter places in the country or by the water, so I was very relieved when we got to the castle early one June morning and saw that we had the place almost to ourselves!

This mom wanted relaxed and natural family photos and a couple of bump images. And that’s exactly what she got! Her little boy is shy, so she didn’t mind that he wasn’t smiling all the time. In fact, she loved the more serious pictures and has ordered prints of them! Like I always say, small children have LOTS of different moods. They don’t HAVE to smile in every photo! Why not capture more of their expressions than just smiling?

A Summer Evening's Walk in Sweden | Barnfotograf Stockholm

Sweden is really beautiful in the summer. It provides the perfect backdrop to photographs, especially with the gorgeous, soft evening light. Today, June 21st, the sun doesn’t set until 22:06 here in Stockholm, and sunrise was at 03:31. That’s a whole lot of daylight, right?! For evening photo sessions at this time of year, the temperature is usually warm and the light is just yummy! Once I start shooting on these summer evenings, it’s hard to stop!

I should also mention that around this time of year, clients often ask me to their summer homes to do relaxed outdoor family sessions, which are always great fun :) It’s the perfect time to document your family when they can kick off their shoes and just hang out in the garden of their summer-house, maybe enjoying some fresh watermelon.

Teenage Family Session | Familjefotograf Stockholm

GOOD VIBES. They had it in spades! There was SO much laughter during this teenage family session in the suburbs of Stockholm! I actually had to tell them off for making me laugh so much! I was so happy when the mom of this family got in touch and told me she really wanted a family session before her teenage children begin to fly the nest. I do plenty of sessions with toddlers, but for some strange reason, some families don’t always prioritize getting portraits taken with their teenage children. And as I keep saying, this is such an important stage! These teenagers are on the verge of stepping out into the world to build their own lives. Now, just imagine, these parents are going to have so many beautiful images of their teenagers around their home to help remind them of all the good times!

Logistically, it’s always easier to plan a family photo session when all your teenage children are still living at home. Emotionally speaking, these years are fleeting (although it might not always feel like that)! There is so much change happening during this stage of your child’s life, it should really be captured. I like to do that in a fun, relaxed way ;)

End of School Year Portraits | Stockholm Portrait Photographer

I’ve photographed three two-year-olds during three family sessions this past week. It’s a fun, albeit full-on age group! It does make me wonder though why so many families have their babies and toddlers photographed but few book sessions with their tweens and teens? It’s such a shame! When you look at photographs of your two-year-old and then you look at your tween/teenager, does it not amaze you how much they have changed in that time? They are becoming young adults right before your very eyes! SO MANY CHANGES!!

The below photographs were taken during the evening in a local park over a one-hour period. That’s all it takes to create beautiful, timeless, natural images of your tween/teen. Trust me, you don’t want the only evidence of these years to be phone selfies!

You can always book a portrait session just for your tween/teen, it doesn’t have to be the entire family, but please, make sure you have some beautiful photographs from this period of your child’s life.
