When it comes to photographing people, I notice there is a pattern in the kind of people I like to have in front of my camera. They have a certain openness, are unguarded, smile and laugh easily, don’t take life too seriously, have positive energy, and bonus points if they laugh at my bad jokes! ;)

If you were to have a family photo session, what would you look for in your photographer? You would want someone who would make it a fun experience, right? I mean, we’re not pulling teeth here! We are creating family legacies! As I often say, photos are rarely significant at the moment they are created. It is the passage of time that makes them priceless. In 20 years’ time, this family will look back at these images and wonder at how much everything has changed!

High energy fun family photo session | Stockholmfotograf

I cannot believe I’m only getting around to sharing this amazing family session now! To be fair though, this autumn season has been insanely busy here at Jolly HQ. I’ve been doing 7-day weeks and locking myself in my office for hours on end in an effort to stay on top of my work. Let the record show, I am not complaining about being busy, I’m just filling you in on what’s been happening lately ;)

Do you know that before a family photo session, I provide my clients with as much information as possible to prepare them for our shoot? I believe that the more prepared my clients are, the more successful the session will be. I provide them with lots of tips and inspiration on what to wear, how to choose locations, how a shoot will flow, how mom and dad can make the session better (it’s not all down to me, you know!), etc. Preparation is key!

From the minute I met this family at our location, they were bursting with positive energy! These three gorgeous girls made my job so easy - always ready to turn on the charm for the camera! And just look at how high energy and joyful their images are :).

Relaxed outdoor family photo session | Familjefotograf Stockholm

Have you thought about having a family photo session, but you’re worried about how your kids may behave? You’re probably not alone ;)

Jolly photo sessions are well known for being relaxed and easy-going. I don’t line everyone up and demand that they smile at the camera! We start off by chatting, maybe walking a bit, and getting to know each other. With very young families, it is really lovely to capture more candid, interactive family moments, or what us photographer like to call, ‘the in-between moments.’ Pictures of parents kissing their children, walking hand in hand or just cuddling, are usually the moments that make up young family session. In Jolly sessions, not everyone needs to be looking at the camera and not everyone needs to have a big grin on their face. It’s all about keeping things relaxed, natural, and emotive :).

Fun Family Photo Session in Djursholm | Stockholm Family Photography

Picture this: you work hard, you have a busy family life, the days and weeks just roll into one. You regularly say to yourself, “I really must book a family photo session.” And then, before you know it, YEARS have flown by, the kids have grown up and moved away, and you never slowed down enough to book that family session! Do you really want that on your conscience?!

This beautiful mom works really hard, has FOUR kids, and still managed to prioritise a family session! She told me her story and I told her not to worry, I would provide her with a style guide, choose a location for our session and have a fun-filled photo session with her and her family. And we did! We met on a hot August evening. As advised, she’d made sure the kids were rested and had eaten well beforehand, and then we just hung out in Djursholm and let the session unfold naturally. Not every photograph of your family needs to have everyone looking at the camera, you know. Often the best images are when you are all having fun, playing in the water, chatting, or tickling each other. You should know, I firmly believe you are never too old to be tickled ;)
